Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your family and friends. The weather sure was nice – if you like warm weather this time of year. I’m sure there are many folks who would be thankful for a good old-fashioned soaking right about now.

The rain that was forecast for last week sure was a disappointment. We barely got two-hundredths out of the whole deal. Everyone I spoke with in the area was in the same boat we were – just a few sprinkles here and there and that was about it.

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, Christmas is less than a month away. Don’t forget you can start your holiday off right by heading over to Bourdet’s Christmas Tree Farm for a fun-filled family day in the forest. Santa will be there all weekend long, along with free, narrated hay rides and a petting zoo. Food and beverages are available so you can spend all day there looking for that perfect tree while enjoying some family time together.

The King City High School girls’ basketball team hosted their annual pancake breakfast last Saturday at King City High School. The event proved to be very successful as they sold more than 600 tickets to the event. The breakfast keeps getting bigger and bigger every year. Next year we’ll have to move locations to accommodate the crowd.

If your looking for some good entertainment this weekend, the boys and girls high school basketball teams will be playing in the annual Alumni games this Friday and Saturday evening at King City High School. The alumni games can sometimes be the most entertaining games of the year. At least the girls alumni game was entertaining last year. The boys will play on Friday evening. JV and freshman will play at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity against alumni at 7 p.m. The girls will play at the same times on Saturday. Both games are fundraisers for the program so be sure to come to support the team.

Helen Matulich hosted her annual branding last Sunday at the Pine Rock Ranch. Some of those on hand to help Alex and Stacey included: Stan and Jeanette Sharp, Paul Wattis, George, Mary and Morgan Hansen, Doad Hext, Wyatt Bourdet, Cash Robinson, Jim and Michelle Prewett, Fred and Darla Prewett, J.W. Brewen, John Nino, Doug Forzani and me, Todd, Sierra and Brody.

J.D. and Denise Donham also hosted a branding last Saturday at the Lone Pine Ranch in Paicines and on Monday night, Katie Donham was honored at the King City High School Lady Mustangs volleyball banquet.

The Salinas Valley Fair is hosting a three-day long barrel racing event this weekend at the indoor arena at the fairgrounds. Late entries are taken each day so it’s not too late to enter if you want a chance to run at some big money. The event begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, noon on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday. Late entries will be taken up to one hour prior to the start times.
