Summer time has finally hit out here in South County.  We had some really hot days out here last week.  I don’t think we ever hit the 100-degree mark, but it was darn sure close.

The students from Bitterwater Tully School went on a field trip last Thursday to Roaring Camp in Felton.  I figured it would be pretty cool over there on the coast, but I was wrong.  It was a beautiful day, very warm and sunny.  The kids rode the train through the redwoods, panned for gold and had a picnic lunch before heading back home.  They all had a great time.  Eighth-grader Braden Donovan celebrated his 14th birthday that day as well.  Happy birthday Braden.

Tracie Eggleston branded some calves at her place last Saturday.  Some of those helping out included J.W. and Candace Brewen, Andy and Tamra Barrington, Kenny and Valerie Reed, Ed Strohn, Gabe and Juanita Williams and Matt and Danny Palmer.  Alma and Jerry Carlsen stopped by for a while as well.

The King City Riding Club hosted its monthly gymkhana last Sunday at the fairgrounds.  Some of those participating included Blaine and Blaire Strohn, Ralphie Rianda, Mason and Brooke Rianda, Chesney Brouhard, Kelsey French, Chase and Clay Barbree, Jenna Lombardi and Mark Cabral, Dakota and Colton Stoughton, Cody Hood, Lauren and Caleb Johnson, Tucker Bennett and Sierra and Brody Sans.  Congratulations to Blaire Strohn on having such a great day, she won the goat tying event and placed in many other events as well.  Congratulations to her brother Blaine as well as he won the boys goat tying event the day before at the Posse Grounds, Jr. Rodeo in Salinas.

The King City Little League Baseball season in finally starting to wind down a bit.  Brody finished up his last league game last Friday night, while Buddy will end his regular season play this week.  Its always bittersweet when the season comes to an end.  I’m glad because I won’t be running to town every day of the week, but sad to see the season end.  I love watching the boys play ball.  It must be because I grew up with three older brothers who played ball all their lives as well.  Now we’ll just have to wait and see if the team goes to the Tournament of Champions or if the boys make the All-stars.  We should now all of that by next week.

Don’t forget to get your entries in this week for the San Benito Saddle Horse Show and Rodeo.  The Figure Eight Roping and jackpot roping will take place on Father’s Day, followed by a barbecue at Bolado Park.

Have a great week, and, if you have any news you’d like to share, be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at we********@ao*.com.
