Holiday celebrations come to South County

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend. Can you believe it’s already that time of year again? I just wish we’d get some wet weather to be thankful for this weekend!

Many folks (especially my Mom) spend Thanksgiving weekend putting up their Christmas Trees and their holiday decorations. Rumor has it that many new elves have settled in over at the Bourdet Christmas Tree Farm in Hollister. We’ll be heading over their next week to meet the new elves and to cut down our Christmas tree. If you haven’t been there yet, be sure to take your family there this year. It is a wonderful, family oriented playground full of trees, elves, tractor rides, concessions and a petting zoo. The kids and adults alike will have a great time.

Congratulations on a great football season to the King City High School Mustangs. Unfortunately, their season came to an end in the first round of playoff action last Friday night in Seaside. They haven’t been to the playoffs in several years so at least they made it that far. Now, it’s on to basketball.

The Lady Mustangs opened up their season last weekend with a scrimmage in Salinas. All indications are that they are going to have another tough team this year. The Bitterwater Lady Badgers will begin their season on December 9th in Greenfield. I’ll post the time and location when I have more information available.

Vern and Joann Scattini branded some calves last weekend at the home of Johnny Joe and Darlene Maggini. Some of those helping out or just enjoying the day included: Casey Sabin, Jim Bob Wilson, John Nino, Annie and Gerald Davis, Wyatt Bourdet and Lacey Taliaferro, Frankie Martines, Frank and Cindy Johnson, Robbie Scattini, Paul Wattis, Gary and Chance Jackson, George and Sandy Rose, Laurence and Donna Hansen, Jeff and Jean Schmidt, Johnny Joe and Darlene Maggini, John Brewen and Lou Harbin, J.W. Brewen and Emily and Sarah, The Johnsen Family and The Sans Family. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful barbecue after the branding.

A California High School Rodeo, hosted by District 4 was held last weekend at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City. Some of the local kids competing included: Katie Harris, Dreux Clark, Megan Cheney, Callie Whitney, Ashlee Jansen, Robbie and Averi Regan, Megan Melton, Katie Vest, Jenna Lombardi and Kylie Mullen.

Some of the junior high kids who competed at the rodeo in the Wrangler Junior Division included: Blane and Blair Strohn, Kristy Melton, Cortnee Bowers, Bree Groves and Sierra Jo Sans.

I hope you all have a great holiday weekend, drive safe whereever your travels may take you, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at
