Birthday wishes abound in South County
South County has been enjoying some spring-like weather the past
few days; so far we’ve had a great year, with lots of rain followed
by lots of sunshine. Let’s just hope it continues for a while
longer. If the groundhog is right, we will have at least another
six more weeks of winter!

South County has been enjoying some spring-like weather the past few days; so far we’ve had a great year, with lots of rain followed by lots of sunshine. Let’s just hope it continues for a while longer. If the groundhog is right, we will have at least another six more weeks of winter!

Birthday wishes go out to a few South County folks this week. Betty Sans celebrated her birthday on the Feb. 12, Todd Sans celebrated on the 16th and Tel Jones celebrated his birthday on the 19th. Happy birthday everyone!

Students from Bitterwater School went on a field trip to the aquarium last week. The kids always enjoy that field trip. One of their newest attractions, the seahorse exhibit, was the highlight of the trip.

Tamra Barrington hosted the February hot lunch at the school last Thursday. After a delicious lunch, the kids had their annual Valentine’s Day party since they had a four-day weekend the Friday before Valentine’s Day. Jefferson School is out for a full week for a winter break.

Many South County kids participated in a multidistrict high school rodeo last weekend at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City. Some of those participating included: Blane and Blair Strohn, Megan and Kristy Melton, Megan Ford and Dylan Pierce. The Wrangler Junior High kids were included in this rodeo as well and those participating from our area included: Cheyenne Rey, Avrie Hubbel, Taylor Hurley and Brody Sans. Congratulations to all the Wrangler kids for qualifying for the Wrangler Junior High School State Finals in their events.

Local Hollister resident Kenny Rose is in the midst of promoting an upcoming concert that he is producing which will be held at Bolado Park. Tommy Cash (Johnny Cash’s brother), will be performing on March 13 at the Pavilion at Bolado Park. He does a tribute show in honor of the late, great, Johnny Cash. Also performing will be the Second Wind Band, performing before and after the main show. For more information on the event, you can check out the Web site at www.karcoconcerts.com. Be sure to mark your calendars now for this once-in-a-lifetime event.

If you’re a Pedro player, don’t forget about the annual San Benito County Cattlewomen’s Association Pedro Party next Friday night, Feb. 26, at the Tres Pinos Church. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. There will be lots of fun, food, refreshments and prizes. For more information on the event, contact any Cattlewoman or Charlotte Cabral.
