spirits last week as we were given a little rain for our holiday
season. It wasn’t exactly a gully washer but hopefully it’s a start
on a wet, rainy, 2008!

Alex Schmidt reported only 0.10 inch at the Pine Rock Ranch while 0.30 inch was reported at the Topo Ranch and a whopping 0.90 at John and Marianne Madson’s place on Hwy. 198. Jim and Betty Barrington reported 0.60 inch, along with Jo Ann and Vern Scattini and Todd and I recorded right at a half an inch. It’s not a whole lot, but, it’s better than nothing.
Vern and Jo Ann Scattini hosted two holiday get-together’s last week for Christmas. They had a small family gathering at the “Bitterwater Country Club” last Wednesday evening, then, the following Friday night, they had their annual Christmas Party. Many friends and family gathered to play cards, socialize and enjoy the gift exchange.
We hosted our fourth annual Christmas Eve Party at our place on Christmas Eve. Besides the entire Schmidt side of the family on hand, also joining us were the Mallory Family and Shannon and Tom Cromer and their new baby boy. What a doll he is, it’s always so fun to have a new baby at Christmas time. Joining us from Elko, Nev., was my brother Randy and his family, my parents, the Barrington Family, the Silva Family, Blake Willoughby and Jessika Silva, Laurence and Donna Hansen and Jeff, Jean and Steve Schmidt. Santa Claus made his annual appearance later in the evening and brought lots of presents for all the kids, and even some unsuspecting adults! It was a fun evening, one we enjoy every year.
Thank you to my “faithful reader” out there who anonymously sent me a crying towel to help me get through the rest of the football season. Due to the horrible games my Broncos have been playing, I’m sure the towels will come in handy, and the candy was good too!
The annual Colin Coady Classic Memorial Rodeo will take place on Saturday night, Dec. 29, at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City. This is always a great event honoring a great young cowboy who lost his life in a tragic four-wheeler accident a few years ago. The event keeps getting bigger and better every year and you won’t want to miss it. Following the bull riding, there will be a dance in the arena. Also taking place this weekend is the King City High School Girls Christmas Classic Basketball Tournament at King City High School. The JV team will play their first game at 1:45p.m. on Friday afternoon while the Varsity will play their first game at 7 p.m. on Friday night. The outcome of the first two games will determine their playing time for Saturday’s games. Tickets can be purchased in advance from any player or the day of the game at the door.
If you’re looking for a good, family film to take the kids to, or just a fun entertaining one for yourselves, check out “Alvin and the Chipmunks.” I took the kids last week and we had a ball, it was a funny, entertaining movie that we all enjoyed. I definitely recommend it to anyone.
