Mark your calendars for this Sunday, July 29, as the O’Connor family and friends will be hosting a fire relief barbecue and silent auction for Virginia O’Connor who lost everything she owned in a devastating house fire last spring. The barbecue will offer ribs, tri-tip, beans and salad for $20 per person and there will also be all kinds of wonderful items to bid on in the silent auction. The event will take place from noon to 5 p.m. at the Entertainment Pavilion at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City.
Many birthday wishes go out to several South County residents who celebrated birthdays last week. J.W. My dad had a nice visit with his brother who arrived for a few days’ visit last weekend from Minnesota. He arrived just in time to take in a little Pony baseball action in Monterey before having a nice dinner in Carmel with my folks. He informed me that my Aunt writes a column very similar to mine in a newspaper back in Wisconsin – social columns must run in the family, I guess!
The Salinas Rodeo kicks off this week in Salinas. If you are looking for a way to beat the heat, be sure to head on up there to take in some rodeo action. If you want to see some locals in action, be sure to check out Twyster Hurley who will be the clown during the Mutton Busting event. Twyster takes his job very seriously so be sure to check him out.
