A little rain’s better than none
We had a little change of weather last week in Bitterwater. We
are in desperate need of rain and we finally got some, and I
mean

some.

The weather forecasters sure talked up a big storm but Mother
Nature sure didn’t deliver. We barely got 0.20 inches at our place,
just enough to settle the dust, for a day at least. That was
followed by our first frost of the year so any bit of moisture we
got was just taken right back out of the ground. Ask anyone around
here what they want for Christmas and I guarantee their answer will
be RAIN, and lots of it.

Many schools will be getting out this week for Christmas break. Bitterwater Tully School will be holding a Christmas program and potluck this Wednesday evening at Tully Hall. The evening begins at 6 p.m. and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.

Sierra and I spent a few days in Salinas last weekend as the King City High Lady Broncos participated in a basketball tournament at Notre Dame High School while the Lady Mustangs participated in a tournament at Salinas High School. Just when I thought the games couldn’t be any better than when the girls beat Hollister a few weeks ago, they got even more exciting at the tournament.

The JV team beat North County in the first round followed by another win against Notre Dame in the second round. They earned a spot in the championship game against North Salinas High last Saturday and was that ever a thriller. The game came down to the final seconds of the game and unfortunately, North High won by one basket. The girls played great and made us all very proud. Congratulations to Bethany Carroll and Erica Williams for earning All Tourney titles for the tournament.

The Varsity team ended up losing their first game against Salinas High, followed by a win on Friday night, and an unfortunate loss on Saturday. Great games were played by all girls. This week, the girls will be traveling to Cambria on Tuesday, Seaside on Wednesday and to Monte Vista Christian School on Saturday. King City will host a tournament December 28 and 29 at King City High School. Tickets can be purchased in advance from any player. Be sure to mark your calendars and come on out to support the girls.

Members of the Bitterwater 4-H Club headed to Hollister last Friday afternoon to participate in the KSBW Share Your Holiday campaign. The club gathered new coats and blankets for families in need and presented them to weatherman Jim Vanderzwann on live TV. The kids had a ball. Hopefully it was Twyster Hurley’s big break in entertainment as he really wants to be an actor someday! Those participating included: Savannah Hoss, Brody Sans, Michael Kreibhel, Edwin Mendoza, Samantha Simmons, Taylor and Twyster Hurley and Kelsey Silva. After the event, the kids had pizza and the Hurleys headed over to Bourdet’s Christmas Tree Farm to pick out their tree.

We went to Bourdet’s last Sunday to pick out our tree. Their parking lot was packed full of cars and there were people everywhere looking for trees. We were greeted by Santa at the front gate who was talking to the kids and handing out coloring books and candy canes for everyone. Besides the petting zoo, snack shop and great trees to pick from, this year also features a new, animated hay ride through the tree farm. Not only do you get to see the whole farm, but lots of special elves can be seen on the hay ride as well. It is quite a treat and a great way to spend a day with your family. Be sure to stop by and visit John and Tina, you’ll be glad you did.

Have a great week, try to stay warm, pray for rain, and, be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at we********@ao*.com with any news you’d like to share. Oh yeah, can’t forget my Broncos, how’d you like that 41-7 over the Chiefs? Finally they pull off a win, a little too late, but a win is a win! Go Broncos!
