Halloween signals holiday season

I hope you all remembered to set your clocks back last weekend! It was nice to wake up and have it be fairly light on Sunday morning instead of pitch black. And I hope you all had a safe and happy Halloween as well.

Now that Halloween is over, the holidays are right around the corner. This is my favorite time of year. Once we start receiving and processing cattle, the holidays are right behind. And, speaking of the holidays, John Bourdet called me the other day to tell me about the new 15-minute narrated sleigh ride that is being featured at Bourdet’s Christmas Tree Farm this year. The Lions Club of Hollister will be offering food and beverages again this year and the FFA will once again be hosting the petting zoo. And of course Santa will be there on the weekends as well. The farm opens the day after Thanksgiving and will be open through Christmas.

The Bourdets have once again graciously donated gift certificates for Christmas trees to Bitterwater Tully School to be raffled off as a fundraiser. The students will be selling raffle tickets now through Nov. 26, the day the raffle will take place. Be sure to check with any Bitterwater student or contact the school to get your tickets.

Cynnie O’Connor’s photography will be featured this month at Sol Treasurer’s in King City. I got a sneak peak of some of the photos she will be hanging there and they are really good. Be sure to stop by to take a look at her photos; you might be able to get some early Christmas shopping done while you’re there.

Cerra Vista School is Hollister is looking for vendors for their Christmas Craft Fair that will be held on Dec. 6 at the school. For more information, you can contact Julie Englehardt at 635-9674.

Kasey Hurley was very busy last week as she hosted the Bitterwater Tully School Halloween party at Tully Hall last Friday night. Then, she and Hec hosted their annual Halloween party at their place on Saturday night. Some of those community members who stopped by to enjoy Halloween with the kids at Tully Hall included Ruth Records and Roberta Oswald, Jim and Betty Barrington, Laurence and Donna Hansen, Jeff and Jean Schmidt, Jim Smith and Robin and Alberta Rist.

Hec and Kasey Hurley’s annual Halloween party was another success. They had a houseful of guests with lots of amusing costumes. Andy Barrington gets my pick every year for one of the best costumes. I don’t know how he pulls it off but he always looks so authentic in whatever he dresses up as. This year he was a gangster while Tamra dressed up as a bottle of Tequila. Hec and Kasey did a role reversal as Hec dressed up as a woman and Kasey dressed up as a pimp. Other notable costumes included Blake Willoughby, who looked exactly like Elmer Fudd, while Jessika dressed up as a rodeo clown. Brandi Schmidt was a whoopie cushion, Nessen Schmidt Jr. was a keg of beer and his girlfriend Jessica was a crazy cowgirl. Nessen Schmidt Sr. was the chief of police. Alicia Koester was a French maid while Tim was a mechanic. Susan Nino was a witch and Sandy Silva was a very convincing “Vera” from the old TV show Alice, Karen Whitney was a Greek goddess and Billy was Poncho Villa. Larry Reeves was a very convincing ’70s girl, complete with go go boots. Everyone had a great time again as usual.

Entries for the Salinas Valley Fair Ranch Rodeo close this week so be sure to get in touch with Casey or Vickie Sabin to get your entries. The rodeo will take place Nov. 16 at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City.

Have a great week, and be sure to give me a call or email me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
