Cold weather hits hard in South County
Can you believe this weather? It really stinks! Another week has
gone by with still no rain, but there sure is plenty of cold and
ice. All we can do is keep hoping and praying for rain. There’s no
sense in getting mad about it, we can’t do anything about it
(unless anyone knows of a sure-fire rain dance!)

Can you believe this weather? It really stinks! Another week has gone by with still no rain, but there sure is plenty of cold and ice. All we can do is keep hoping and praying for rain. There’s no sense in getting mad about it, we can’t do anything about it (unless anyone knows of a sure-fire rain dance!)

There were plenty of frozen – then broken – pipes in the area last weekend. Many folks spent the prior week wrapping their pipes in anticipation of the freeze. It helped some, but didn’t help others. Bill Rist reported 6 degrees at his place last Saturday morning on Lonoak Road. Gregg and Sami Jo Johnsen had 11 degrees at their place on Jolon Road. John Wooster reported 16 degrees at his place on Friday morning. We’ve had right around 18-20 degrees each morning, with frozen pipes every morning. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m sick of this weather! Bring on the rain, and please let us have a warm, tropical one at that!

Taking advantage of this disgustingly dry weather to brand some calves last week were Larry Homen, John Wooster and Barney and Irene Bray. Larry and John both branded last Friday, Larry at Wildhorse and John at the Crown W Ranch. Barney and Irene branded on Sunday at their place.

As predicted, there was standing room only for Porky Tognetti’s funeral last Friday in King City. It was reportedly a beautiful service with lots of laughter and tears. Many memories were shared of Porky and his impact on people and youth sports in King City. He affected many people in the area and will always be remembered and greatly missed by many.

The E-Cubed Foundation in Tres Pinos has some calendars for sale that consist of artwork done by rural school students. The foundation funded art programs for several rural schools last year and a lot of the artwork was put on display at Starbucks in Hollister. Twelve of the pictures were chosen for the calendar. All proceeds from the calendar will benefit the E-Cubed Foundation. Bitterwater students Marissa Donovan and Jeanine Madson have two pictures in the calendar. If you’re interested in purchasing a calendar, you can contact me and I’ll put you in touch with the right person.

If you’re a football fan like I am, I’m sure you appreciated all those good football games last weekend. Now that we’re down to the final four, I’m hoping for an Indianapolis vs. New Orleans Super Bowl.

Until next week, stay warm, but pray for rain, and, if you have any news you’d like to share, be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected].
