Summer’s early in South County
I hope you found a way to stay cool last weekend; it was darn
sure a hot one. We were well into the 90’s both Saturday and
Sunday. Brody had a baseball game in Soledad Saturday and it was 93
degrees at game time. I’m not ready for the summer heat yet; we
could use more rain out this way.

A beautiful memorial service was held last Tuesday in Hollister for Bettie Schmidt. There was standing room only at the church, and the service was followed by a luncheon. I learned a lot about Bettie I didn’t know. She was well-loved, respected and will be missed by all who knew her. My sincerest condolences go out to Bob, Ted, Maggie and all who loved her.

Birthday wishes to Lacey Taliaferro, who was surprised with a 30th birthday party last Saturday at her parent’s home in Hollister. Wyatt Bourdett hosted the party. I don’t know how many people were there but it had to be over 100.

John Rianda and friends provided a delicious barbecued steak dinner for the guests. Just a few stopping by to celebrate included: Bob and Ann Hansen; Ross, Marlene and Nicole Rianda; J.W. and Candace Brewen; Casey Sabin; Hec and Kasey Hurley; Vern and Jo Ann Scattini; Frank and Cindy Johnsen; Charlie Tobias; Curt and Nicole Nelson; Dick and Jeanie Coefield; Alex and Stacey Schmidt; Helen Matulich; the Donati Family; Dawn Ricotti; David Texeira; the Melton Family; George and Sandy Rose; and Todd and I, just to name a few. It was a great party. Happy Birthday Lacey!

Congratulations to Katie McCeachin of Soledad, who was crowned 2008 Miss Salinas Valley Fair hostess. The contest was held last Saturday at the fairgrounds in King City. Katie will reign over all fair events, beginning with the Salinas Valley Fair Kick-Off Dance at the Orradre Building Saturday.

Have a great week, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at
