Birthdays and hot days in South County
It was another hot one in South County last week; temperatures
were into the ’90s again over the weekend. Buddy had a baseball
game in Salinas Saturday morning and it was even hot over there!
You know when it’s hot in Salinas that it is really hot in South
County. Prepare yourself though, for cooler temperatures this
coming week. I don’t know about the weather these days, it sure is
pretty crazy. Must be that

Birthday wishes go out to Natalie Madson, who celebrated her 15th birthday last Sunday. They beat the heat by celebrating Nat’s birthday down in Moro Bay. They enjoyed a day of cool, beach weather and dinner with her grandparents. Birthday wishes also go out to Nat’s grandma, Aileen, who celebrated the day before. Brandi Garza-Schmidt and Nessen Schmidt, Jr. both celebrated birthdays last week as well. Happy Birthday everyone!

The Salinas Valley Fairgrounds were a busy place last weekend, as there was a big team roping Saturday followed by the first King City Riding Club gymkhana of the year Sunday. The team roping was a big success as they had many teams competing on Saturday morning, followed by the Professional Team Roping Association roping on Saturday night. There was live music, drinks and dancing after the event. Casey and Colleen Sabin bartended the event and said the turnout was good, and the entertainment was good as well. John Brewen and Lou Harbin also attended the event.

The riding club held its first event of the year Sunday. Some of those competing for the day included Taylor and Tatum Hurley, Emily and Sarah Brewen and Blaire Strohn. The next event will be after the fair in May.

Hec and Kasey Hurley hosted a belated birthday barbecue last Saturday evening at their home for Tryan’s first birthday. Some of enjoying a warm, beautiful evening included Kenny and Valerie Reed, Vern and Jo Ann Scattini, Lynette Hurley, Brandi, Wade and Rebecca Garza, Sandy, Jessika and Kelsey Silva, the McFarland family, the Brewen family, the Sans family and the Barrington family.

Chalone Peaks Middle School hosted its annual 5K Run/Walk last Saturday at the school. They had a very successful turnout, with many Bitterwater-Tully students and parents participating as well. Congratulations to all those who participated in the event, especially Bitterwater participants Jensen, Cole and Crystol McFarland, Taylor and Twyster Hurley, Brody Sans, Michael Kreihbel and Callen, Erika and Tim Williams.

Bitterwater-Tully School students will present their annual Spring Concert Thursday, May 8 at 6 p.m. The event will be held at the school, and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.
