Congratulations go out to South County graduates
How did you all like the weather in recent weeks? Don’t you just
love the thunder clouds? It reminds me of growing up in Colorado
and having thunderstorms every afternoon in the summertime. I’m
sure it will get hot soon enough around here.

School is beginning to wind down in South County. Jefferson School students graduated June 10, as well as Chalone Peaks Middle School 8th-graders. June 12 was graduation day for Bitterwater Tully students and King City High School. Along with graduations come a lot of parties and celebrations. Be sure to give me a call or e-mail me with any of your graduation news.
Melissa Popnoe, granddaughter of Jeff and Jean Schmidt, graduated recently from Truckee High School in Truckee. They celebrated with a barbecue at Donner Lake after the ceremony. That sounds like a fun place to have a graduation party to me. Mel will be attending the Univeristy of California, Davis in the fall. Congratulations, Mel!
Chalone Peaks Middle School 8th-graders participated in the ninth annual Civil War reenactment June 5 at San Lorenzo Park in King City. Bitterwater Tully students attended the event for an all-day field trip and they were able to watch Bitterwater Tully Alumni, Todd Sans Jr, “die” in the Battle of Gettysburg. It was our first experience attending the event and I would highly recommend everyone attend the event at least once. It was so fun and educational. And what a great way for the kids to learn history other than just reading it in a book or watching a movie. To actually participate in a reenactment is something that will stick with them forever. A big thank you goes out to Chalone Peaks School, and Mr. Andrews for hosting this event for our community each year. Your hard work is very much appreciated and I’m sure the kids enjoyed it just as much as the adults did.
Several South County kids participated in the 64th annual Monterey County Sheriff’s Posse Junior Rodeo last Saturday in Salinas. Some of those participating included Ashlee Jansen, Blane and Blair Strohn, DJ Parker, Dawson and Lila Bell and Sierra and Brody Sans. Congratulations to DJ for winning the calf roping, to Brody for winning the steer riding and breakaway roping and to Dawson for winning several events as well. Sierra, Blane and Blair all placed well in their events, too.
Congratulations go out to Alyssa Abercrombie for being crowned Miss San Benito Rodeo at Bolado Park in Tres Pinos. Alyssa will represent the Saddle Horse Show at the end of the month for the horse show and rodeo.
The inaugural 19th Hole Ranch Rodeo was held two weekends ago at the Fox Creek Ranch in Hollister. What a beautiful place that is. Many South County residents entered up to practice up for the Saddle Horse Show and Rodeo. Congratulations to Pat Abercrombie for winning the Men’s All Around and to Lacey Bourdett for winning the Ladies All-Around. Some winners for the day were Todd Sans and Wyatt Bourdett who won the Sort and Rope, Dean Bell won the Figure 8 Roping, Becky Ford won the Ladies Steer Stopiing, Alyssa Abercrombie and Rian Barth won the Jr Sort and Rope and Wyatt Bourdett and Sierra Sans won the In and Bye. It was a really fun family day that I hope continues on for many years. Thanks to all those who helped produce the event.
Get well wishes go out to Cash Robinson who got stepped on pretty badly by a steer two Sundays ago and had to get several stitches in his calf.
