Giving thanks for the rain
Can you believe it? It actually rained for Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving Day was actually nice and dry, but the day before it
rained and rained all day long here in South County. It was
definitely a day to be thankful for. I hope you all had a safe and
happy holiday with your family and friends.

We received 0.75 inch of rain at our place last Wednesday, we even lost power for most of the day. Les and Betty Sans reported 0.80 at their place. John Nino reported 0.40 at the 72 Ranch while John and Marianne Madson reported the same at their place on Hwy. 198. Josh and Linzy Lindeman reported a mere 0.12 at their place in San Ardo. It was a pretty spotty storm, but at least we were in the wet spot this time. Now that a little green grass is starting to poke through, it’s time for more rain.
It was standing room only at Bitterwater Tully School last Wednesday afternoon for their Community Thanksgiving Feast. There had to be well over 60 people in attendance and since it was actually raining outside, everyone had to sit inside. Some of those stopping by to enjoy lunch included: Bill, Robin and Alberta Rist, Janet Oswald, Vern Scattini, Jeff and Jean Schmidt, Laurence and Donna Hansen, Bob Flores, Chase and Clay Barbree, Jim Smith, Roberta Oswald and family members from every student there. The kids and staff did an excellent job preparing the huge meal for such a large crowd. There were plenty of leftovers too, so, the kids will get to have another hot lunch one day this week.
The drawing for the free Christmas trees, donated by Bourdet’s Christmas Tree Farm in Hollister, was held during the Thanksgiving Feast. Congratulations to the Hurley Family and the Veysey Family for being the lucky winners. Thanks to all who supported this fundraiser by purchasing tickets, and to John and Tina Bourdet for donating these tree’s to us on a yearly basis.
Bitterwater School hosted another fundraiser this week, on Wednesday, Dec. 3, with a bake sale and homemade casserole sale at the school. The sale was to take place at 3 p.m. and probably will not last long. They hope to make this a monthly event so mark your calendars for the first Wednesday of each month for this new fundraiser. All baked goods and casseroles will be home made and everyone knows what good cooks there are out here in South County. Be sure to stop by and pick up “dinner and a pie” on Wednesday.
Jeff and Jean Schmidt hosted a Thanksgiving meal at their home last week. Joining them included both of their daughters, Shari and Sue, and their families, and their son Steve. Vern and Jo Ann Scattini hosted a large gathering at their place as well. Some of those joining in there included the Johnsen family, the Hurley family, the Sans family, the Silva family, Blake and Jessika Willoughy and George, Sandy and Tammy Rose.
Don’t forget about the King City High School Girls Basketball Pancake Breakfast this Saturday, Dec. 6, at the high school cafeteria. The breakfast will be held from 8-11 a.m. and the breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, bacon, juice and coffee. Tickets are $6 each and can be purchased from any KCHS girls’ basketball player, or, contact myself or Marianne Madson. Tickets will also be available at the door but advance tickets are preferred so they know how much food to prepare.
Some good basketball action will take place this week in King City and Hollister. The girls will take on Hollister in Hollister on Tuesday, then, the boys’ and girls’ teams will take on Coast Union High on Thursday in King City. The JV girls will take the court beginning at 3 on Thursday, followed by the JV boys, varsity girls, then, varsity boys. If you’re ready for some basketball, you can get your fill on Thursday at KCHS.
Have a great week, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at we********@ao*.com with any news you’d like to share.
