Gymnast wins state championship
HOLLISTER
– Maiko Suarez, a seventh-grade student at Rancho San Justo
Middle School, competed in the Northern California level 7 state
gymnastics championships in Rocklin. She won the all-around title
and every event title in her age division. She received the highest
score at the meet, out of 260 gymnasts.

With so many gymnasts participating, the level of competition
was high, but Maiko remained focused and posted an all around score
of 38.025 points out of a possible 40 points,

her father Ray Suarez wrote in an e-mail.
She posted a high score of 9.8 out of 10.0 on floor
exercise.
In November 2007, her younger sister Shiina Suarez won the
Northern California level 5 state championship.
Both girls train in Morgan Hill at Champions Academy under the
direction of Jianhua Xiao and World Champion Jinjing Zhang.

New soccer program starts

HOLLISTER – Catalyst soccer offers programs and camps for soccer players of all ages. There will be multiple weeks of summer camps in Hollister, Gilroy and Morgan Hill.

The programs are for children ages 4 to 12. It focuses on player skill and development, rather than on winning and losing.
