The San Benito Stage Company production of “The Foreigner” opens Feb. 11, with tickets available by presale only for the dinner theater production.
The dinner show will be performed Feb. 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25 and 26, with Friday and Saturday shows at 7 p.m., and Sunday shows at 2 p.m.
The show will be held at The Vault Restaurant banquet room, with room for 100-120 diners to take in the dark comedy that is set in rural Georgia.
“It’s kind of a little bit of a dark comedy,” said Rachel Perry, the show’s producer. “It takes place in a fishing lodge in rural Georgia. The main character is a British man, who is shy and received some tragic news right before he left Britain.”
The comedy comes in when the man’s friend tells the others at the lodge that he does not speak English. The man makes up a foreign language, and over hears things he probably shouldn’t be hearing, according to Perry.
The cast includes seven members, all over 18, with Kati Valdez as the director, as well as an associate director and a set designer.
“We don’t really have a big group with this show,” Perry said. “The benefit is it’s easier to corral people and organize. The downside is you don’t have all the volunteers you’d like for sets and painting.”
Perry said the group has created a set of the rural cabin locale inside The Vault, whose staff has worked around it a few times when they’ve had parties in the banquet room.
“They’ve been working around us,” Perry said. “We’ve been rehearsing since just after Christmas.”
Tickets for the show and dinner are $30, available at Postal Graphics or by calling the San Benito Stage Company. The group worked with the caterer to create a menu that would go along with the rural South setting in the film. The caterer for the Vault developed the recipe.
“They really came up with that on their own,” Perry said. “The menu looks like pork sliders, vegetables and a citrus watermelon salad. Or vegetarian lasagna as the vegetarian option.”
