Hollister – Students planning to get a job this summer should get a work permit from their school before summer vacation starts.
Due to California Labor Code Mandates, students between the ages of 12 and 18 must have a “Permit to Employ and Work” on file with their employers, in order to legally hold a job.
Students can pick up an application form from the school that they attend, where their permit will be authorized and processed. Those who are thinking about working should get a permit before school ends in June, San Benito County Superintendent of Schools Tim Foley said.
Employers who employ students who do not have work permits can face a fine of between $100 and $500.
