Dear Editor:

When it became evident that there was not going to be adequate funding, nor enough teachers willing to teach summer school for every student to attend, why didn’t San Benito High School re-address their admittance policy?

If every student can not attend, summer school should be on an as needed, teacher recommended policy.

As it stands today, student names were “randomly drawn” and told by letter they could not attend summer school. Now, students with passing grades and incoming freshmen with 4.0 GPAs will attend summer school, and students with lower GPAs and students needing to attend, can not.

I urge every student and their parents who received a “letter” to call the high school and voice their opinion on this policy. While it will not help those “randomly drawn” students this summer, changes need to be made on how students will be admitted to summer school in the future.
