The House of Representatives approved a bill that would rename Pinnacles National Monument to a national park. The bill now heads to the Senate.

Pinnacles National Park will continue its summer speaker series in August with four planned lectures focusing on climate change and sustainability.
The first lecture will be Aug. 3, at 2 p.m., at the Soledad Library with Ranger Matt discussing the impact of climate change on national parks. Pinnacles Partnership board member David Baumgartner will offer a look at the planets and stars on Aug. 10, from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., on the West side at the Visitor Contact Station. Elliot Hazen, who is with the University of California, Santa Cruz campus and partnered with Pacific Grove National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration lab, will share the effects of climate change on the area’s oceans Aug. 17, at 2 p.m., on the West side at the Visitor Contact Station. Candice Wong, from rrm Design, will show how Pinnacles is going green Aug. 24, at 2 p.m., on the West side at the Visitor Contact Station. Park entrance fees apply for the lectures inside the park.
