Supervisor Jaime De La Cruz today submitted an amended campaign finance report to show a $265 in-kind donation from Lombardo & Gilles, which represents DMB-El Rancho San Benito, for its part in organizing a previously undisclosed fundraiser in the spring of 2008 before his reelection, according to the documents.
It is the second such contribution from the same donor that he has now included in his statements – De La Cruz noted a $189 in-kind donation from the firm on disclosure reports due last week – following a Free Lance investigation revealing unreported support from Lombardo & Gilles throughout his campaign.
His changes so far followed confirmation that the firm had organized at least two De La Cruz fundraisers and his election-night party, and offered to pay the balance of about $100 for that June event at the Broken Wing.
In response to questions over donations to De La Cruz, a law firm official has pointed out how the business often backs political candidates who support the agriculture industry. A DMB representative – whose company is proposing the 6,800-unit community northwest of Hollister – has said he had been unaware of the firm’s campaign activity.
Today’s addition to De La Cruz’s campaign reports relates to an event held at Bedolla Family Vineyards on April 17 – he previously had recalled it took place in May – before his June victory. Noted in the amended report is $264.52 in services from Lombardo & Gilles for “Organizing Event For Fundraiser.”
He included the $189 donation from the firm in last week’s reports for its work in assisting with a July 2008 fundraiser at San Juan Oaks Golf Club – which confirms the firm assisted with at least four De La Cruz events – on top of a $250 contribution from the venue for a room fee.
De La Cruz noted today how he also plans to submit two more amendments soon – for in-kind donations related to a December 2008 fundraiser at the Tres Pinos Inn and his victory party at the Broken Wing in June.
Regarding the additional fundraiser at San Juan Oaks after his election, De La Cruz said he held it because he had received some campaign bills late.
