Police captured a man wanted on a $100,000 arrest warrant out of Santa Clara County after a brief standoff on Sunday in which the man threatened to kill himself.

A confidential informant told police that Pablo Martin Camacho, 40, was hiding in a garage apartment on the 500 block of Fourth Street. A Hollister native, Camacho was wanted by authorities on drug-related charges and his alleged involvement two days prior in a domestic violence situation in San Jose.

Hollister Police officers and San Benito County Sheriff’s deputies surrounded the house around 8 a.m.. Police went into the garage after talking with house residents and cornered a desperate Camacho hiding behind furniture.

“One hundred thousand dollars. That’s usually pretty serious when you’re talking drug charges,” said HPD Chief Bill Pierpoint.

Police backed off when Camacho allegedly pointed a large hunting knife at his own throat and screamed he was about to commit suicide. A private investigator who works with Camacho’s attorney helped police calm down the suspect over a two-hour period.

The man finally put down the knife and turned himself over to police. With no one getting injured in the process, Camacho was taken to San Benito County Jail.
