San Juan Bautista – The weather was warm in San Juan Bautista last week, but it wasn’t the sun that was heating up the streets.
Dressed in revealing bikinis and glossed over with baby oil, the swimsuit models of Ujena Swimwear wandered throughout town, shooting scenes for the 20th anniversary issue of Swimwear Illustrated, the company’s magazine. The issue is expected out in December and Katherine Cross, spokesperson for Ujena, said the company decided to shoot in California because that’s where the business was founded.
“We chose San Juan Bautista because it has a beautiful, historic California background,” she said. “We really liked the traditional feel of that old California atmosphere.”
While their normal stomping grounds include places like Cancun, Spain and Prague, Councilman Arturo Medina said the women felt right at home in San Juan Bautista.
“I thought they were leaving Tuesday evening, but then I saw them again on Wednesday,” Medina said. “I guess they decided to take their time because they told me they were enjoying themselves.”
While in town, the models struck a pose at different locations, including the historical park, Jardines and other stores downtown. San Juan Bautista locals are used to seeing wandering chickens downtown, not models, so Medina said they were quite shocked to see the beauties sauntering about.
“It was quite different,” he said jokingly. “People were gathering around in groups watching because they would just stop in the middle of the street and start modeling. You might get good comments from the city workers because they were chasing them around town.”
When they weren’t walking the catwalk of Alameda Street, Cross said, the models enjoyed the food and hospitality of the town, and are very excited about coming back to the area again soon.
“The food was absolutely great, and everyone was so charming,” she said. “This is definitely a place we’ll come back to again in the future.”
