HOLLISTER
For those interested in joining in Tax Day protests Wednesday, Hollister has two different options.
One is the “Tax Day Tea Party” being put on by the Friends of the Constitution–San Benito Chapter, and the other is “Peace, Protest and Fast” sponsored by Hollister People for Peace, the Hollister Peace Vigil and San Benito County Health Care for All.
The Tax Day Tea Party will take place 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday on the corner of San Benito and Fourth streets. Those interested in attending are asked to bring a sign and a tea bag to protest “abuses from Washington D.C.,” according to a press release from the Friends of the Constitution–San Benito Chapter.
The release also asks that anyone involved police the area after the event is over to leave it better than it was found.
“Peace, Protest and Fast” will protest what that group contends is “75 percent of taxes” being spent on the Iraq War, according to a press release. Special clothing and costumes are optional. Attendees are asked to bring signs, water and hand-outs. Fasting and length of participation are voluntary.
“We want less money for ware and more money for health care,” said Mary Zanger, one of the group’s members.
The event will take place at the Hollister Post Office, 100 Maple St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
