The San Benito High girls tennis team rebounded from last week’s narrow loss to Notre Dame when it cruised by host Monterey on Monday by a comfortable 6-1 margin.
The victory saw San Benito’s No. 1 and No. 3 singles players Hayley Barker and Kristina Slavich pick up their first wins of the season. Barker defeated Chelsea Nindnam 6-3, 6-4, while Slavich beat Stephanie Balaban 6-4, 6-1.
Alex Treolo also earned a victory at the No. 4 singles spot, where she defeated Michelle Balaban 6-1, 6-4. Monterey scored its lone victory at the No. 2 singles position, where Nicolette Quario beat Rachel Smith 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles, Vanessa Casalegno and Chelsea Yoakum remained undefeated on the season at 6-0 when they beat Monterey’s Emily Lewis and Grace Bae 6-0, 6-2, while Lady Balers Erin Glasspool and Audrey Marshall matched the 6-0, 6-2 score by upending Julie Bin and AJ Kwak.
At the No. 3 doubles, Helene Escamilla and Olivia Diaz topped Eyla Bratovic and Deanna Munoz 6-1, 6-4 to preserve the doubles sweep.
San Benito improves to 3-3 overall with the win. At 0-1 in the Tri-County Athletic League, the Lady Balers will have the chance Tuesday to even its league record when it hosts Alisal at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister.
