After falling in its first two matches to open the 2010 season,
the San Benito girls tennis team picked up its first victory
against Watsonville on Tuesday when the Balers topped the Wildcatz
by a 6-1 margin at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in
Hollister.

After falling in its first two matches to open the 2010 season, the San Benito girls tennis team picked up its first victory against Watsonville on Tuesday when the Balers topped the Wildcatz by a 6-1 margin at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister.
A doubles sweep helped supply the win for the Balers, who improve to 1-2 overall on the early season.
At the No. 1 spot, San Benito’s Erin Glasspool and Alex Triolo defeated Janet Ledesma and Sheila Lopez 6-1, 6-2, while teammates Alex Garcia and Oliva Diaz followed suit with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Felisha Balli and Teresa Medrano.
At the No. 3 position, Balers Anne Tobias and Krysten Klay won their match 6-0, 7-5 over Watsonville’s Tonya Hernandez and Ruby Magdaleno.
San Benito’s singles took three of the four matches as well, with the lone loss coming to Audrey Marshall at the No. 3 spot. Marshall narrowly lost to Sara Benivi 6-4, 4-6, 9-11.
Otherwise, the Balers picked up wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4.
At the top spot, junior Hayley Barker beat Sandra Mendoza 6-1, 6-1; Kristina Slavich defeated Rachel Banuelos 6-0, 6-1 at the second position; and younger sister Kelsey Slavich topped Lvi Velasquez 6-1, 6-1 to round out the singles portion.
San Benito is back in action on Wednesday when it will visit Carmel at 3:30 p.m.
