School plans another Ford fundraiser in September
San Benito High School partnered with Tiffany Ford July 25 for a fundraiser that netted $2,540 for the Associated Student Body and the classes of 2012 and 2013.
Juan Robledo, the student activities director at SBHS, said he worked closely with John Sanchez, of Tiffany Ford, on the “Drive One 4 UR School” fundraiser, in which the dealership offered $20 per person to test drive a Ford vehicle that day, for up to 300 people.
The test drives were arranged at Baler Alley on the San Benito High School campus, and 127 drivers participated.
“For the summer, we thought it was a very good turnout,” said Robledo, who worked on publicizing the event among teachers, students and staff.
The school has plans for another test drive event in September and is working with Tiffany Ford to confirm the details, with Sept. 26 tentatively selected.
“We want to make it a class competition,” Robledo said.
Tiffany Ford will donate an additional $100 for any of the test drivers who purchase a vehicle from the dealership within 45 days of the test-drive event.
Some of the students who volunteered for the event included Katie Thorpe, the ASB president, and Kendall Archer, the student congress president. Ray Thorpe served as a parent volunteer during the day of driving.
Matt Andrade, an SBHS staff member, took a test drive in a Ford truck, while Maylani Sabette Mahler, the 1995-95 ASB president, showed up to support her alma mater by testing a car.
