The Broken Wing bar downtown is set to close down Aug. 16 after opening in March 2007.

Co-owner Larry Otis announced the closure this week and said that with “current economic conditions and a limited product line” the business could not sustain the needed revenue to stay open.

Otis and his wife, Julia, run the bar that features a more spacious, modern feel than other establishments here – while also providing live music on weekends, another option rare in Hollister.

While noting one problem with the local economy, Otis believes a limited number of other entertainment options in town has kept outsiders from visiting the downtown scene.

“There just really isn’t a night life here, and nothing seems to be growing,” Otis said.

He noted how they plan to liquidate all their assets and be out of the building by month’s end.
