Health officials are discussing the downsides of sugary drinks.

Panelists answered the following: Do you believe government entities should regulate the consumption of sugary drinks in any manner?
Mary Zanger: Yes, because I want the health department to do its job of protecting the public. Sugar is a chemical whose excessive use can be a poison. Over-consumption of sugar causes tooth decay, obesity, heart disease and diabetes. Obesity begins with high consumption of sugary drinks. Regulation can begin with education. Education must counteract the propaganda of excessive high-profile media advertising.
Bill Mifsud: No, freedom of choice. Though these drinks may not be good for you, the decision should be made by the individual, not the government. The United States is based on its freedom and the freedom of choice. Big Brother has more things to worry about then the consumption of sugary drinks.
Ruth Erickson: No! Big Brother should advise, not regulate.
Nants Foley: Though I dislike sugar-laden drinks, I dislike government intrusion even more. Water. I like water!
