Dear Editor:
Gulf War I ended in 1991 with a cease-fire. There were numerous conditions that both sides agreed to honor. The “No-fly zone” condition was violated by Iraq almost from the get-go.
One key provision of the cease-fire was that Iraq would destroy its missiles and weapons of mass destruction.
U.N. inspectors would continue to perform their function in Iraq. When the U.N. inspectors were forced out of Iraq, the cease-fire was broken. Technically, a state of belligerence has existed since then.
I may be a little off on the time line, but I think the U.N. inspectors were kicked out of Iraq about the time Bill Clinton was bombing the Christians in Kosovo. Where were the protesters then?
I do not remember seeing any. Was it because Mr. Clinton is a Democrat? Was it because the women and children doing the dying were Christians? Where were they?
We now have a president that is waging a war on terrorism, a war forced upon us all. The international rhetoric is almost a duplicate of what occurred during 1934 to 1939. The more times change, the more they stay the same.
Hopefully, the outcome will be less traumatic this time than then.
President Bush has my support. One criticism I have of President Bush is that he has taken too long to do what must be done, no matter how painful.
President Bush has tried too hard for too long to avoid a war not of our making. And for this, a Hollister-in-Black spokesman called him a warmonger.
Hollister-in-Black is a product of the Women-in-Black.
The Women-in-Black organization began 20 or more years ago. It had its beginning in Israel as a pro-Palestine, anti-Israel group of women in their black habits or burqas.
From there, it spread to the former Yugoslavia Republic, that is, to Serbia and Kosovo. Now they are in Hollister. Has the tiger change its stripes?
The Women-in-Black give the appearance of accepting killing women and children if they are Christians in Kosovo or Jews in Israel as well as accepting indiscriminate bombing of buildings (with airplane bombs) if the victims are Americans. And Hollister-in-Black patterns themselves after this group. Shame on you.
At some point, the Hollister-in-Black people may cross that thin line between patriot pacifist and an abdication of responsibility. That time may be soon.
