Three San Benito County teenagers will compete for the title of
Miss San Benito Rodeo to represent the annual Saddle Horse Show and
Rodeo and its association throughout the year.
Three San Benito County teenagers will compete for the title of Miss San Benito Rodeo to represent the annual Saddle Horse Show and Rodeo and its association throughout the year.
Amber Cooper, 16, Amanda Lima, 17, and Kari Thul, 18, will square off in the contest to decide the winner at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Bolado Park.
The winner will receive a sponsorship as Miss San Benito Rodeo at the California Rodeo in Salinas and be required to represent the horse show association at the county fair and the junior rodeo.
The three will be judge on horsemanship, personality, appearance and scholarship, a short quiz based on the county and local horse show history.
Cooper, born in 1986, has participated in the annual horse show, the Joe Brigantino Rodeo, Policeman Charity Rodeo and high school rodeo and teaches riding lessons.
Lima, born in 1986, also participates in rodeos, and focuses on team roping, goat tying, ribbon roping, the rescue race and steer daubing. She also enjoys working cattle.
Lima plays the piano and is involved in many FFA activities.
Thul, born in 1984, is involved in cattle sorting, family team roping, trail rides, brandings and Figure 8 roping.
She also enjoys her time volunteering with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Saving The Children From Cancer Society, and tutoring young children.
On her own time, Thul likes to hip-hop dance, snowboard and being on the lake boating.
