The City Council has these meetings as they desire,

They held only one last year and this is the first one this

The San Juan Bautista City Council will host a town hall meeting this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Community Center on San Jose Street.

“The City Council has these meetings as they desire,” said Deputy City Clerk Trish Paetz. “They held only one last year and this is the first one this year. We hope there will be more later.”

Flyers for the event promote it as a “free exchange of information on issues of community-wide importance.” There will be no discussion of any issue pending before the city council or the planning commission.

It also offers citizens the opportunity to speak more in-depth about their city, organizers say.

“In a city council meeting, you have three minutes to speak at the beginning,” Paetz said. “This being a free forum, they have more opportunity to talk about things that are on their mind.”

All city council members are expected to attend, Paetz said, and invitations were also sent to planning commissioners.
