Editor,

I was shopping with my mom and two children last Thursday at Costco when someone stole my son’s Leapster Learning System (which he got for Christmas) out of our cart in the parking lot. I had been in the restroom with my son and my mom got distracted by my 3-year-old in the car while loading. We think this is when the person stole it.

I ran back in the store, checked with management, clerks, the workers bringing carts back to the store and even walked around the store to see if anyone had found it. My son, age 5, quickly drew a picture and wrote: “Lost Leapster” at the top. I took it into the store for the manager to post. Sadly, I told my son that someone probably took it from our cart.

Each night when we say our dinner blessing, he asks God to help that person return it to him. It is such a sad statement of our society that someone is low enough to steal a child’s toy and right out from under one’s nose. I know this incident pales in comparison to the many atrocious crimes being committed in the world as well as our own towns.

The irony is that it will be useless without the charging system once it runs down. We are hoping that the person who stole it will read this and decide to return it. If so, just return it to Costco and they’ll call us. If not, you must’ve needed it worse than my children did and God bless you.
