The local transit agency has decided to sell advertising on its vehicles and facilities, with the Council of San Benito County Governments Board recently approving the program.
The local transportation authority currently is establishing the program, which would generate revenue for operations, capital and planning, according to a staff report presented at the Oct. 15 meeting. A precise financial impact, however, cannot be estimated at this time.
The report notes that County Express has not advertised on its vehicles or bus stops in the past, but that the staff has received interest from local residents and national advertising firms. Previously, the board of directors had directed staff to contract with an advertising company to do the sales.
But advertising policies first must be established and adopted before the transit authority can contract with such a business, according to the report.
The report goes on to note that staff members are finalizing a request for proposals and expects to provide the COG board with an RFP at its January meeting.
