Two men were arrested Wednesday in what Gilroy police are describing as a case motivated by jealousy.

Anthony De La Rosa, 38, of Gilroy and Louie Aguilar, 48, of San Martin were picked up for allegedly beating up and stabbing 39-year-old Raymond Hart six times in the back on Oct. 23.

The attackers’ were allegedly motivated to harm Hart after he moved into a Princevalle Street home with a woman De La Rosa had recently stopped dating. The address of the home and the name of the woman in question were not released by police, but De La Rosa had once lived in the home with the woman where the attack took place.

On the date of the alleged attack, Hart returned home from work as an electrician sometime around midnight, but was stopped by his new girlfriend at the home’s front door. The woman asked to speak with Hart on a porch swing and the two sat down, but then a group of men – Hart did not know exactly how many – came out of the front door and began assaulting him. Hart soon fell down on the porch boards.

A Gilroy police officer went to the hospital and found the victim stabbed six times in the back. Initially, the victim told the police little about his attackers but eventually opened up after being repeatedly approached by detectives.

“He said his muscles felt sore and what he thought a liquid sensation,” said Detective Dan Zen, who arrested the suspects Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a friend of Hart’s apparently realized something was wrong and stopped his truck out on the street. Hart got up and ran and jumped into the truck bed and Hart’s friend sped off to Saint Louise Hospital. Hart was initially uncooperative with police, but soon began opening up slowly to detectives about a week after the attack, according to Zen.

De La Rosa was arrested at the Gilroy Police Station on Wednesday, while Aguilar was picked up at his job, a mail order business on the 6000 block of Silacci Way. It was not immediately clear what the District Attorney’s Office will charge them with or the terms of their bail.
