Thousands of people are expected to visit San Juan Bautista this weekend for the 15th semi-annual Fine Arts and Quality Crafts Festival, one of the largest of its kind in California.
The festival, which spans eight blocks, takes place April 26 and 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Admission is free.
Shoppers can expect to find about 250 artisans displaying their works for sale from six surrounding states.
“It’s a great little community,” said Jeff Williams of Reno, Nev., the festival’s promoter. “It’s quaint and charming.”
The event has brought an annual average of $18,000 to the city. Its indirect advantages come from the visitors who also make their way into local shops and restaurants.
“The tax revenue can be a substantial amount,” said San Juan City Manager Larry Cain. “It all depends on the weather.”
Williams said selecting the vendors was carefully planned because it’s important that products are not duplicated.
“We screen our exhibitors for quality and originality,” he said.
Patrons can expect to find hand-crafted jewelry, furniture, keepsakes and food from more than 30 vendors, including free samples of kettle corn. “We have a lot of good food,” Williams said.
The festival will feature non-stop live entertainment on the main stage, where Eight Second Ride will perform old and new country songs.
