A 16-year-old man and a 30-year-old driver were arrested Tuesday
night, after the 16-year-old was suspected of trying to rob a
restaurant at gunpoint earlier in the night.
Around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, a man entered El Epazote Taqueria on
McCray Street carrying a shotgun and demanded money from the
business’ owner. The owner pointed out the surveillance cameras
causing the suspect to flee the area without money, according to
police.

Around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, a man entered El Epazote Taqueria on McCray Street carrying a shotgun and demanded money from the business’ owner. The owner pointed out the surveillance cameras causing the suspect to flee the area without money, according to police.
Witnesses reported the man ran around the building toward Subway and Penguins Carwash where he was picked up by a white pickup truck. After searching the area, Officers found a loaded .22 caliber rifle and clothing that matched the suspect’s description.
The white pickup was found later that night by a San Benito County sheriff’s deputy. The driver, Jacob Taylor from Hollister, was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to the crime. Witnesses’ reports helped identify the truck’s passenger, a 16-year-old male, as the gunman, according to police.
The juvenile was arrested and booked into San Benito County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of attempted armed robbery, using a firearm in a felony and committing a crime for benefit of a street gang.
Police are still investigating the crime.
