By the time you read this, The Great California Chillpocolypse of 2013 will be over. At least, I hope it will be over. I haven't been this cold since I lived in Canada - and frankly, that's saying a lot. (And please don't get me started on Canadian summers. Suffice to say that about July 15, millions of Canadians emerge from their homes dressed in tank tops and shorts to bask in the balmy 65-degree weather. It's like being in Hell, if Hell were cold. And not, you know, filled with fire and brimstone.)

Historical Society to reschedule ‘Raise the Roof’ fundraiser

The San Benito County Historical Society members decided to cancel the second Annual "Raise the Roof" fundraiser that was set for this last Wednesday due to low ticket sales. The event was intended to raise money to rebuild the Dunneville Dance Hall at the County's Historical Park. It will likely be rescheduled for next Spring.

Gilroy Scouts receive religious honors

Monsignor Fran Cilia, vicar general of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Jose, led a Prayer Service and Catholic Religious Recognition Ceremony March 18 honoring hundreds of assembled participants in area scouting programs: Cub-Webelos Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, Sea Scouts, Girl Scouts and Camp Fire. Eight Gilroy girls were among those honored at St. Joseph Cathedral Basilica in San Jose.
