Brian Jergens, his wife Jennifer, Homes For Our Troops Executive Director Dawn Teixeira, Hollister Mayor Ignacio Velazquez, and a representative of Assemblyman Luis Alejo’s office broke ground for a very special home for the Jergens family. It will be built on Rosebud Avenue at no cost to the veteran.

After years of writing this column, I sometimes feel a little cocky thinking I know virtually all the nearby parks and preserves. A couple weekends ago, I led a trip into the remote east side of Henry W. Coe State Park. A woman who was on the trip told me about a preserve I had never heard of in Watsonville that she loves and hikes regularly. So much for my comprehensive knowledge.
All in the family at Harvest Festival
Under clear blue skies Aug. 16, I experienced the 23rd annual Guglielmo Harvest Festival held at Guglielmo Winery in Morgan Hill. I learned how to say “abundance” in Italian (abbondanza) and saw how, at least for one day, everyone was one big happy family, enjoying the festivities together.
