Oh, she may look cute now, but …

From time to time, I do stupid things. Oh, they don’t sound stupid before I do them—but they end up stupid. Take the last month or so, for example. We decided to paint the outside of our house, which would be awesome, except we have No-no Lulu, the dog from hell. Basically, if you don’t live with her, she will bark at you. And bark at you. And bark at you. Until you are deaf or until you leave, whichever comes first.

Googling illnesses a big mistake

Recently, I caught a mild cold. Now this would have been a normal thing, except that I am not a medical doctor and therefore could not remember if I was supposed to starve my cold or feed it. Also? I thought maybe it was allergies and not really a cold and I couldn’t even begin to know if I starved my allergies, fed them or if I should just take an allergy pill and stay away from the backyard for a few days.

Sharing infections; Crow becomes family pet

You and your pets share infections. You’ve heard this before, but now there’s new evidence that makes it even more significant. For example, humans aren’t the only ones who will be infected by the flu virus this coming season. Studies have shown that cats and dogs often carry flu viruses. We’ve known for some time that kitty-cats could be carriers. But research in 2000 implicated dogs as well. And the numbers of infected pets is really surprising. A recent Ohio study of feline blood samples found that almost a third of cats had been infected with seasonal flu, and one in five had been infected with the H1N1 flu strain that caused so much concern in 2009.
