A 52-year-old Paicines woman, former Pinnacle reporter Kate Woods, remains in critical condition after being airlifted Saturday from a single-car accident in which her vehicle rolled over and she was ejected, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At 11:30 Saturday, Woods drove a 1995 Mazda Miata off the road at the intersection of Panoche and Recalde roads. The vehicle turned over, and the driver was ejected from the car.

When authorities arrived, she was unconscious and sustained unknown external injuries, said Jaime Rios, an officer with the Hollister/Gilroy CHP. She was taken by air ambulance to Regional Medical Center of San Jose, which confirmed that she remains in critical condition today.

It’s unclear at this point whether drugs or alcohol were involved, and the case remains under investigation, according to the CHP.
