Based on preliminary numbers reported by the San Benito County Elections office website as of midnight on Tuesday, Supervisors Jaime De La Cruz and Anthony Botelho had significant leads against their opponents while Margie Barrios had a nearly 3 percent lead over her opponent.

Botelho lost a little of his substantial lead in District 2as ballots were counted throughout the evening, but still garnered 57.54 percent of the votes to candidate Arturo Medina’s 42.15 percent.

De La Cruz received 65.89 percent of the votes in District 5, with Flores taking in 33.11 percent of the votes.

Barrios had received 51.12 percent of the votes in District 1, with Mark Starritt receiving 48.16 percent.

Hollister voters also highly approved of a measure to create an at-large mayor, with 70.97 percent voting yes on the measure. The measure will allow residents of all city council districts to vote for one mayoral candidate. Residents supported a two-year term for the position, with 62.77 percent voting for that option rather than a four-year term.

 Around 27 percent of registered voters in San Benito County cast a ballot in the presidential primary election.

The mail in ballots and the ballots from voter precincts have all been counted, but official election results will not be available until after a canvass has been conducted by the elections office.
