Three-term Councilwoman Pauline Valdivia has made her candidacy official for a reelection effort in November, according to the city clerk’s office.

Valdivia submitted the required signatures Thursday to run for the District 3 seat, which represents the south-central area of the city. The deadline to file the signatures is Aug. 6 at 5 p.m., a week from today.

Valdivia, the longtime executive director of Jovenes de Antano in Hollister, is serving her 12th year on the council. She is the first resident to file paperwork for candidacy in two open seats.

The other open seat is in District 2, on the west side. Councilwoman Eugenia Sanchez has announced she will not seek a second term, while nobody in the district had submitted paperwork as of this morning, City Clerk Geri Johnson said.

If Sanchez does not declare candidacy, the Aug. 6 deadline in that that district will be extended by five days to Aug. 11, Johnson said.
