Waging a war of love in the new year

Dear Editor,

Today is New Years Day and I am sitting in my living room watching the Rose Parade. This gives me time to observe what’s going on all over the world. I see the ones with so much enjoying life, big houses and lots of toys. Killing themselves with so much food, drink and cigarettes.

This is all over the world.

Then I see the ones so poor walking barefoot, hungry. Many die from lack of nutrition. They’re short of food, housing and medicine. On top of that, living under dictators.

I see wars all over the world the wars of hate and the wars of love and peace. The hate ones are the ones where they shoot at one another for whatever the reason. Only hate can cause that. To kill others it must be hate.

On the other side, we have the war of love. Lately we’ve been watching the war of love; I call that the “Earthquake War.” Where so many people lost their lives, where many lost their lives to save others, where everyone worked together to help one and other. It did not matter what color or religion. In this case, it seems no different from the rich to the poor, from white to black. God has his purpose. This is to how if we love one another we will work together. There is no need for hate wars.

Last year in San Benito County, we had a touch of a hate war. I admit that I was involved. I am glad that is over. This year I would like to see and be part of the war of peace that is much needed in this community.

This Rose Parade shows what great people and a great county we live in. It doesn’t matter what the rest of the world shows us, this parade gives us the courage to go on for the New Year.

Happy New Year.
