With its Tri County Athletic League men’s water polo title and a No. 3 seed in the Central Coast Section playoffs in hand, the postseason was supposed to be the Haybalers coming out party.

Instead, the sixth seeded Aragon Dons upset the Haybalers 14-10 in the first round of the CCS Division I playoffs at St. Francis High School Saturday.

Haybalers senior Nik Barr went out with a bang. He scored four goals in his final game as a Haybaler.

San Benito jumped out to an early 3-1 lead early in the first quarter before the Dons’ leading scorer, Sho Yamazaki, heated up. The Dons eventually built a 9-5 lead late the second quarter and pulled away.

In addition, the Haybalers women’s water polo season was cut short in the first round of the CCS playoffs.

Coming off a disappointing loss in the TCAL championships to the Live Oak Acorns, which forced the Haybalers to share the title with its rivals, San Benito lost to Lincoln High School 5-1 Tuesday.
