The San Benito County Water District will be offering free agricultural workshops focusing on irrigation and fertilizer management while emphasizing efficiency, according to the water district.

Those workshops also will include information on a “new regulatory environment for water quality production,” according to the agency’s press statement. The presentations will be led by instructor Dr. Marcus Buchanan.

They are set for 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 24 and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 7. The first one is on “irrigation efficiency and farm water management,” and the second is on how to “optimize crop fertilizer inputs and efficiency.”

According to the water district: Buchanan has experience in soil fertility, plant physiology and nutrition in many irrigated annual and perennial, warm and cool season crops. During the past 15 years, he worked as a University of California faculty member and as an independent consultant in the areas of nutrient and irrigation management, solid waste and wastewater land application projects in Central California. This work has been performed privately for growers, food processors, wineries, and for public water and irrigation districts.
