Fresh off his runner-up finish at the Tri-County Athletic League Championships, the senior Rodriguez was awarded the No. 3 seed at 135 pounds, while Gilroy’s Blake Kastl, who earned the TCAL title on Saturday by defeating Rodriguez in the final, was selected as the top seed of the weight class.

Soto, too, was awarded the No. 3 seed in his respective weight class at 140 pounds. The senior grappler also lost his final bout at the TCAL Championships on Saturday to Gilroy’s Aaron Gonzalez, who was given the No. 2 seed in the division.

St. Francis’ Nick Cano was named the No. 1 seed.

Farther down the list, two-time defending TCAL champion Miguel Martin del Campo was selected as the No. 4 seed at 189 pounds — a division that includes San Lorenzo Valley’s Logan Kellog, Bellarmine’s Dan Chaid and Watsonville’s Josh Castillo as the top three seeds.

Meanwhile, 215-pound wrestler Javier Bustillos will make his CCS debut as the No. 3 seed. The San Benito senior recently won the TCAL title at the same weight class on Saturday.

The Balers are currently ranked No. 3 in the CCS, according to ccsrank.com.

St. Francis is the No. 2 ranked team, and will enter the section tournament with 14 wrestlers, six of whom are seeded.

Eight-time defending champion Gilroy, meanwhile, will bring 13 wrestlers, seven of whom are seeded, including four No. 1 distinctions.

The two-day wrestling event gets under way Friday at 10 a.m. at Independence High School in San Jose. Wrestling will continue on Saturday morning, with the finals slated for 7 p.m. on Saturday night.
