Benjamin Saldana, 6, and Tyler Hatchett, 8, each received the ‘911 for Kids Heroes’ award during ceremonies on the steps of the Capitol. The boys were honored for calling the 911 emergency line last summer when their mothers, April Saldana and Shannon Hatchett (standing next to their sons) collapsed after suffering epileptic seizures.

Officials presenting the awards included Assemblyman Simon Salinas, D-Salinas, and state Sen. Jeff Denham, R-Salinas, as well as Joe Farrow, deputy commissioner of the California Highway Patrol representing 911 For Kids, and former professional football players Eric Wright and Kenyon Coleman, representing Athletes and Entertainers for Kids.

Tyler is a student at Cerra Vista School and Benjamin attends Sunnyslope School.
