Barrera/Shillings
Clodoaldo Carlos Barrera and Jessica Shillings are engaged to be married. The wedding will be June 29, 2013 in Morgan Hill.
Clodoaldo is the son of Clodoaldo J. Barrera of Morgan Hill and Fay Brooke McAlister of Fair Oaks. He graduated from Live Oak High School in 2002 and San Jose State University in 2006. He works at The Daily Independent in Ridgecrest.
Jessica is the daughter of Joan and John Shillings of Ridgecrest. She graduated from Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest in 2005 and the University of California, Riverside in 2008. Jessica is a student at California State University, Bakersfield where she is working toward a master’s degree in educational counseling.
HONORS
Carmen Garcia
Carmen Garcia of Gilroy has received a $1,500 scholarship from the Silicon Valley San Jose Chapter of the California Society of CPAs (www.calcpa.org). Garcia is a student at Gavilan College.
The chapter recently awarded a total of $41,000 in scholarships to 18 San Jose area students. Since 1999, the chapter has awarded more than $400,000 to students pursuing degrees in accounting and related subjects. The scholarships annually recognize outstanding students who are pursuing studies that eventually could lead to careers as CPAs.
Rodney Garcia
Sgt. Rodney Garcia was deployed to Afghanistan Feb.14 for a 9-month tour. This is his second deployment to Afghanistan. He is part of the 82nd Airborne/
Infantry Division of the United States Army at Ft. Bragg, N.C.
Following his first deployment, Garcia returned home to his family in Gilroy in December 2010. In June of 2011, Garcia was chosen to participate in a language class, which was to learn Dari (the Afghan language).
In September 2011, Garcia was part of the NCO training in the Death Valley Desert. Garcia was promoted to sergeant in November 2011.
Garcia is the son of Rogelio Garcia and Paula Orosco; brother of Jacqueline Cherry, Catherine Aguilar, Lori Salgado, Rogelio Garcia Jr. and Laura; uncle of Shantel, Johnny, Richard, Justin, Rogelio III, Julian, Richelle, Ryan, Shyriah and Angel.
Mitchell Wright
Army PV2 Mitchell R. Wright graduated from Basic Combat Training and the United States Army Police School Class of 026-11 at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., qualifying expert (scoring 50/50 with the M9 pistol qualification course). He will serve his country with the 341st Military Police Company (Combat Support-Reserve) at Moffett Federal Airfield in Mountain View.
Wright is the son of Greg and Jody Swift of Watsonville.
Shelby Wallace
Shelby Wallace, a student at Dr. T.J. Owens Gilroy Early College Academy, was selected to represent California as a National Youth Delegate to the 2012 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment at George Mason University.
Shelby joins a select group of only 250 students honored with the opportunity for an intensive study of leadership in environmental science and conservation. Wallace was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in leadership in the sciences and conservation studies.
George Mason University along with partners, the National Geographic Society and the National Zoo will host the nation’s leading youth scholars from June 24-29. The weeklong program, held at George Mason University’s state-of-the-art campus, will encourage and inspire young leaders from across the country who desire a unique experience focused on successful careers in this dynamic and important field.
Leah Ailes
College freshman Leah Ailes of Gilroy is listed on the 2011 Fall Semester Dean’s List at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She is studying fisheries and ocean sciences.

Jacob Immanuel and Jasmine Nevaeh Sadler
Jacob Immanuel and Jasmine Nevaeh Sadler were born Jan. 13, 2012 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to Hailey Hartsell and Immanuel Sadler of Morgan Hill. Jacob weighed 6 pounds, 1 ounce and Jasmine weighed 5 pounds, 14 ounces.
