The man convicted of killing a Hollister woman and leaving her body on C Street in June 2007 is filing a motion for a new trial, delaying his scheduled sentencing.
A jury in March convicted Travis J. Hoffmeister of murdering 20-year-old Hollister resident Christella Macias in June 2007.
Hoffmeister was set for a sentence hearing Thursday morning, but indicated he would file a motion for a new trial while seeking a new public defender. Hoffmeister already switched attorneys from public defender Greg LaForge to Arlene Allan, who represented Hoffmeister during his trial.
His next hearing, to have the new attorney appointed, is set for 9 a.m. April 19 at the San Benito County Courthouse.
San Benito County jurors convicted Hoffmeister, 27. He bludgeoned Macias to death and left her body on C Street, where it was discovered by a resident of the westside Hollister cul-de-sac.
Jurors in March deliberated for two hours and 40 minutes before returning with the verdict. Hoffmeister faces a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
He remains at the San Benito County Jail.
