After rain washed out San Benito’s baseball game against Wilcox on Tuesday at the Valley Christian Tournament, the Balers played a double header against Chargers and Archbishop Mitty on Wednesday. In those games, San Benito went 1-1, beat Wilcox 6-1 and losing to Mitty 2-1 in 11 innings.
Against Wilcox, San Benito relied on starting Anthony Ocampo, who threw seventh complete innings, allowing three hits and striking out four batters.
“He was pitching great,” manager Billy Aviles said. “He is on a roll right now. He is just pounding the strike zone.”
The offense was driven by third baseman Craig Slibsager, who went 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Second baseman Marcus Sabatte finished 1-for-4 with an RBI as well for the Balers.
In the late game against Mitty, San Benito scored early, but couldn’t hang on.
The Balers scored early in the third inning, after a single by Jacob Tonascia, Sabatte tripled and gave San Benito a 1-0 lead.
The Balers held the lead until the sixth inning, when Mitty evened the score off starter Tyler Pina.
The game remained scoreless until the 11th inning, when on a botched double play attempt, Mitty scored the game-winning run.
The final game of the tournament Thursday was postponed to a later date, Aviles said.
The Balers, now 13-4, are expected to play Friday against Damonte High School. First pitch is at 11 a.m.
