A crew works to pump about 1,000 yards of concrete into the foundation of the courthouse.

Construction on the San Benito County Superior Court continued Thursday as a crew worked to pump into at least 1,000 yards of concrete for the foundation of the building.

Anthony Ventimiglia, who was working on the project, said he thought it was the largest concrete pour in the history of the county. The crews started their work at 5:30 a.m., with two large concrete booms to pump the concrete from the trucks that came in and out of the site. The day before the scheduled work, Ventimiglia said he anticipated crews would work until 3:30 p.m. He said there would be 200-300 truckloads of concrete brought in for the job.

The concrete pumps were from Berkeley Concrete Pumping, while the trucks and crew were from Don Chapin Co. Inc. Ventimiglia noted that he is a local resident who is working on the project.

The courthouse project is expected to be completed in fall 2013. The $37 million, 41,500-square foot project is located at Fourth and Monterey streets. The two-story building includes the building structure, exterior enclosure, interior improvements, fixed furnishings and case work, mechanical, electrical, telecommunication, audio visual, and security systems, elevators, holding and detention elements, building maintenance equipment and window treatments. The site development includes site preparation, underground utilities, landscape, hardscape, vehicular drives, surface parking, security elements, perimeter fencing, and gates.
